Origin of Persian Blue Salt: The True Treasure of Iran

Unlike sea salt extracted from salt pans, Persian blue salt is a fossil or gem salt, whose crystals formed 100 million years ago in the Precambrian seas. These Sapphire blue salt crystals formed following the evaporation of ancient lakes and inland seas. 100 million years ago, Persian blue salt coexisted, at first sight, with the species that disappeared during the Cretaceous mass extinction.

The blue color of this Iranian salt comes from the potassium ore called sylvite. Exclusively found in halite salts. These salts are usually pink, and finding veins of blue salt is rarer. Persian blue salt is extracted from the mountainsides of the Semnan province in northern Iran, specifically in the Ergourz mountain range. It is entirely harvested by hand.

The Very Ancient History of One of the Rarest Salts

Persian Blue Salt: The Iranian Jewel

The history of Persian blue salt dates back 100 million years. Extracted from the oldest salt mines in the world, in the heart of the Persian Empire in Iran, this salt with its unique color is a true jewel. This salt formed due to the movement of tectonic plates, which trapped water underground that was on the surface, thus forming this exceptional salt with a high content of sylvite, giving it its intense and original blue color.
