Penja pepper in Cameroon is one of the last cultivations of Piper nigrum outside of its original setting (India).
The first pepper plants were planted in Penja in the 1930's by Mr. Decré, a banana planter. Plantations have spread throughout the Penja region ever since.
In 2014, it became the first product of the African continent to obtain Protected Geographic Indication status (PGI).

The outstanding character and flavour of black and white Penja pepper are due to the naturally rich and balanced soils in which they grow. All production stages harvesting, retting, drying and grading are entirely done by hand.

White Penja Pepper has achieved worldwide gastronomic reputation. It's the perfect companion for your pestle and mortar.
