Bagel bread

Discover the recipe for bagel bread with the Terre Exotique spice blend. Enjoy it without moderation with your favorite filling.

Ingredients for 4 people

  • 500g of flour
  • 10g of active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons of salt
  • 300ml of warm water
  • 1 beaten egg for egg wash
  • A few pinches of bagel blend

 

Preparation

  1. In a large bowl, mix the active dry yeast with 1 tablespoon of sugar and 100ml of warm water. Let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.
  2. Add the flour, salt, the remaining sugar, and the remaining warm water into the bowl. Mix until the dough starts to come together.
  3. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and shape them into balls. Then, make a hole in the center of each ball with your thumb and gently stretch to form the classic bagel shape. Ensure that the holes are about 3-4 cm in diameter.
  5. Place the formed bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them slightly apart. Cover them with a clean kitchen towel and let them rest for about 30 minutes at room temperature.
  6. Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F).
  7. While the bagels are resting, bring a large pot of water to a boil. Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat slightly to maintain a gentle boil.
  8. Carefully place the bagels in the boiling water, a few at a time, flipping them once, for about 1 to 2 minutes on each side. Make sure not to overcook them. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the water and briefly drain them.
  9. Place the drained bagels back on the baking sheet. Lightly brush them with the beaten egg and sprinkle with bagel spice blend.
  10. Bake the bagels in the preheated oven for about 20 to 25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and slightly crispy.

Once baked, remove the bagels from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before enjoying.
You can enjoy these freshly baked bagels with cream cheese, smoked salmon, slices of tomato, and red onion for a delicious homemade breakfast or brunch!
