Truffle Croque-Monsieur

Ingredients for the recipe:
- 8 slices of country bread
- 200 g of grated Gruyère cheese
- 100 g of butter
- 2 tablespoons of flour
- 500 ml of milk
- 1 tablespoon of Maison Balme black truffle peels
- A twist of black pepper from Madagascar Terre Exotique
- 200 g of high-quality ham
- A drizzle of Maison Balme truffle oil
- Truffle slices for garnish (optional)
Methods:
-
Prepare a truffle béchamel: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and stir constantly to form a roux. Gradually add the milk, continuing to stir to avoid lumps. Add the truffle peels and continue stirring until the béchamel thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
-
Preheat your oven to 180°C.
-
Spread a thin layer of truffle béchamel on a slice of country bread. Add a layer of ham and sprinkle with grated Gruyère cheese. Place a second slice of bread on top.
-
Repeat the process to form the sandwiches.
-
Lightly brush the top of each croque-monsieur with a bit of truffle oil, if desired.
-
Place the croque-monsieur on a baking sheet and bake for about 15 minutes or until golden and crispy.
-
Remove them from the oven, let them cool for a moment, then cut them diagonally.
-
Optionally, garnish with truffle slices before serving.
