Black Penja pepper

Black Penja pepper

The outstanding character and flavour of this black Penja pepper are due to the naturally rich and balanced volcanic soils in which it grows. In 2014, it became the first product of the African continent to obtain Protected Geographic Indication status (PGI). This black Penja pepper will delight your stews, goat cheese and strong flavoured meats.

Details

Black Penja pepper is harvested before fully ripened then dried in the sun, in the province of Moungo. The expert hands of the local Cameroon women sort the peppercorns, one by one. The volcanic soils of Penja give the black pepper its aromas of camphor, incense and leather. Its acidic spiciness and bite bring to mind the tannic bouquet of red wine.

The perfect companion for your pestle and mortar !
